Star Formation History since Z = 1.5 as Inferred from Rest-frame Ultraviolet Luminosity Density Evolution

چکیده
We investigate the evolution of the universal rest-frame ultraviolet luminosity density from z = 1.5 to the present. We analyze an extensive sample of multicolor data (U AB, BAB, VAB = 24.5) plus spectroscopic redshifts from the Hawaii Survey Fields and the Hubble Deep Field. Our multicolor data allow us to select our sample in the rest-frame ultraviolet (2500 Å) over the entire redshift range to z = 1.5. We conclude that the evolution in the luminosity density is a function of the form (1 + z) for a flat lambda (Ωm0 = 0.3,Ωλ0 = 0.7) cosmology and (1 + z) 2.4±1.0 for an Einstein-de Sitter cosmology. Measurement of Star - Formation Rate from H α in field galaxies at z = 1
We report the results of J-band infrared spectroscopy of a sample of 13 z = 1 field galaxies drawn from the Canada-France Redshift Survey, targeting galaxies whose redshifts place the rest frame Hα line emission from HII regions in between the bright night sky OH lines. As a result we detect emission down to a flux limit of ≃ 10 ergs cm s corresponding to a luminosity limit of ≃ 10 ergs at this...
متن کاملFaint Galaxy Redshift Survey XVI : The Luminosity Function for Galaxies in the Region of the HDF - North to z = 1
We have carried out a study of the luminosity function (henceforth LF) of galaxies in the region of the HDF-North using our very complete redshift catalog. We divide the sample into five redshift bins covering the range 0.01 < z < 1.5 and consider three primary galaxy spectral classes. We solve for the LF at four rest frame wavelengths from 0.24 to 2.2μ. We find that the LFs for quiescent galax...
متن کاملMultiwavelength Constraints on the Cosmic Star Formation History from Spectroscopy: the Rest-frame Ultraviolet, H , and Infrared Luminosity Functions at Redshifts
We use a sample of rest-frame UV-selected and spectroscopically observed galaxies at redshifts 1:9 z < 3:4, combined with ground-based spectroscopic H and Spitzer MIPS 24 m data, to derive the most robust measurements of the rest-frame UV, H , and infrared (IR) luminosity functions (LFs) at these redshifts. Our sample is by far the largest of its kind, with over 2000 spectroscopic redshifts in ...
متن کاملThe VLA - COSMOS 3 GHz large project : the cosmic star - formation history since
We make use of the deep Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) COSMOS radio observations at 3 GHz to infer radio luminosity functions of star-forming galaxies up to redshifts of z ∼ 5 based on approximately 6 000 detections with reliable optical counterparts. This is currently the largest radio-selected sample available out to z ∼ 5 across an area of 2 square degrees with a sensitivity of rms ≈ ...
متن کاملMorphological and Star Formation Evolution to Z=1
The decrease, since z=1, of the rest-frame UV luminosity density is related to global changes in morphology, color and emission lines properties of galaxies. This is apparently followed by a similar decrease of the rest-frame IR luminosity density. I discuss the relative contribution from the different galaxy morphological types to the observed evolution. The main contributors are compact galax...
